I went on a 2 week vacation. now I will begining my fall quarter and hopefully will be able to finish up these two projects and take on a levi’s commercial and then also do a Hip Hop music video for the artist Scireal and others. On my break I took a senior portrait it could be way better if I had more money to buy my equipment so i could get stuff like bert stephani whos work is excellent and he does a great job with strobe lights.

An Update!
Okay, so I’ve been busy with a ton, to start with as a film maker, I have been working harder then ever to just become legit and find myself as an artist and work with others and i feel pretty good about some of the things I have come up with… I’d like to start with the photos of a model that were inspired by Marc Batise nudes a great portrait book; I shot a portrait of this young woman very elegant but normal not to euro and not flashy (not saying that im not interested in that look)

Boredom is violent
Along with this feel free to look at other work I have done at http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewprofile&friendid=121249713
and now i have a website www.joshuapowless.com soon to be a full function portfolio made in flash. so look forward to that. okay well thats my update thanks!

Inspiration, greatest feeling ever its nice to get a daily dose.
Today’s morning started pretty good, I only hope the rest of today can be as inspiring as the first few hours of this day. I started my morning with a little reading and understanding. I found myself lead to a new york times article about a early 1900s painter named Edward Hopper.
(ps: byron I’m sorry I don’t write I should, ill read your book one of these days but surley it was nice of you to point me toward a good direction.
Anyways; Reading this article was extremely inspirational and gave me insight to real artisan work. Now that I’m blogging my thoughts and reviewing concepts and writing them in stone I believe what I pulled from todays article was the possibility to review someone’s art and then to take visual cues of composing and use them in my own work (not considered copying) , also to begin experimenting with mood lighting, and begin looking for personal expression on matters that I deal with and exploit them in my medium. the following is what I look for in paintings, angles, composition, lighting, figure elements, textures, and color. if anyone reads my blog it would be nice to read your comments on my thoughts and possibly teach me something about art I don’t know which is probably a ton.
Another thought, people who have made a major impression on me Shana Scott, Tim Everitt (Thank you)
now for your visual entertainment here you go.

I thought this was pretty cool to see
I thought I’d show this to my friends who all would love to work with film but go to the art institutes (not saying anything negative, just that we don’t get to work with this caliber of camera). I haven’t the slightest idea how to work this camera and when i was waching the video i think i guessed about five things that i think were the same as a digital camera. well anyhow take a look at this;

There Will Be Blood
I just have no idea where to begin when it comes to this film. the film’s cinematography is incredible with natural lighting and low lighting to no lighting at all. the camera is defiantly capturing ratios over 13 way pass digital film making. everything is so high tune and high def.. compositions are incredible. so congratulations to Robert Elswit with his natural feel and very dusk and dirty feel. I wish I knew more about production. 14 minutes into the film to the fist dialogue besides the baby crying here and there I’m pretty sure that the baby isn’t reading off a script.
For me this film is a instant classic, not only because the cinematography but the talent displayed by daniel day lewis and the directing of the adapted screenplay by Paul Anderson is great and spectacular. the lighting is incredible especially 17 minutes and 20 seconds into the movie. I’ll be taking notes so should you. if you are interested I will do a adaptation of it myself and then film it and post it here.
***** stars!
